BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
|
The Board of Supervisors is the governing and policy making body for the county. Monroe County is governed by five Supervisors each representing a distinct district in the county. Each Supervisor serves a four year term.
The responsibilities of the Board of Supervisors are varied but the primary responsibilities include establishing an annual budget for the operation of county government; setting the ad valorem (property) tax rate for the county; establishing county policy, rules and ordinances designed to provide positive direction for the county's growth and development; and appointing key officials necessary to carry out the board's directives.
The Board of Supervisors is also responsible for appointing representatives to serve on various boards throughout the county including Utility District Boards and Fire District Boards.
